Prof. Jiro Fujita, MD, PhD, FCCP, Department of Infectious, Respiratory, and Digestive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of the Ryukyus
In Okinawa, I engage in clinical study and education as a professor of infectious diseases, respiratory diseases, and digestive diseases (the First Department of Internal Medicine) in the University of the Ryukyus. Main specialties are diagnoses and treatment for respiratory infectious diseases such as pulmonary infections caused by acid-fast bacteria, genetic screening to clarify pathogens of the community-acquired pneumonia, and the epidemiology of the influenza virus infection. In addition, as the general manager of infection measures in the University of the Ryukyus Hospital, I promote intervention against nosocomial infections. Furthermore, in conjunction with infectious diseases and respiratory diseases, I published a large number of books.
Graduated from the Medical School, Okayama University in 1981; Toranomon Hospital: Resident, Internal Medicine, 1981-1983; National Cancer Center Hospital: Resident, Internal Medicine, 1983-1985; University of Nebraska Medical Center: Visiting Scientist, 1985-1987; Kagawa Medical University, 1987-2005; Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of the Ryukyus, 2005-present. Honor: Japanese District Award of the American College of Chest Physician (August, 2002), Imamura's Honor Award (Official Award of the Japanese Society for Tuberculosis, April, 2003). The guest professor of the Tongji University, Shanghai, the associate editor of the Internal Medicine, the associate editor of the Nippon Kokyuki Gakkai Zassi. Numbers of articles published are approximately 340 in English and approximately 530 in Japanese.
