Mr. Yutaka Hishiyama, Deputy Director-General, Office of Healthcare Policy, Cabinet Secretariat
Yutaka Hishiyama graduated from the School of Health Sciences, the University of Tokyo in 1985.
He joined the Science and Technology Agency, the Prime Minister Office in the same year and worked on science and technology policy. From 2001 to 2003, he was the Director, Office of Bioethics and Biosafety, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and in charge of ethical, legal and social implications. He assumed to the Director, Life Science Division in 2007 and was in charge of life sciences policy until 2009.He promoted stem cell research, especially iPS Cells, brain research, clinical research and so on. Currently he is Deputy- Director General, Office of Healthcare Policy, Cabinet Secretariat and in charge of developing new initiative for medical research and development.
