Dr. Nobuko Kurosaki MD, President of Specified Nonprofit Corporation Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) Japon
Medical doctor (Specialty: Pediatric Surgery-Surgery). Born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1958.
Kurosaki graduated the School of Medicine of Nagasaki University in 1981 and trained in the department of general surgery at Tokyo Women's Medical University Hospital and in the department of surgery at Seirei Hamamatsu General Hospital. In 1983 she started working in First Department of Surgery at Nagasaki University﹊s School of Medicine and National Children﹊s Hospital (Presently National Center for Child Health and Development). From 1989 as an instructor at Nagasaki University﹊s School of Medicine she engaged in pediatric-surgical practice, research and education. Since 2001 she has held important posts in the department of surgery at Isahaya General Hospital affiliated with Japan Community Health Care Organization, as Director of Pediatric Surgery of Nagasaki Medical Center affiliated with National Hospital Organization and then as Director of Surgery of Nagasaki National Hospital affiliated with National Hospital Organization. She is currently engaged in the day-to-day practice and the community medicine as Director of Kurosaki Clinic.
Kurosaki joined medical humanitarian aid activities of Medecins Sans Frontieres in 2001 and, as surgeon, has been dispatched 11 times in total to the fields including Sri Lanka, Jordan, Liberia, Somalia, Syria and Tohoku for emergency response to the Great East Japan Earthquake. She also worked for Association of MSF as Vice President from March 2005 to June 2006 and from March 2009 to March 2010, and serves as President since April 2010.
