Born in 1959, married with one daughter (21y/o).
Graduated from School of Medicine, Keio University (MD) in 1984 and trained as neurologist.
Two Master's degrees from the Harvard School of Public Health (MPH in 1999 & MSc in 2000).
PhD for public health from Keio University in 1996.
Professional Career at the Ministry of Health, Labour & Welfare (MHLW), JAPAN for 30 years covering infectious diseases, mental health, environmental health, food safety, international health, ageing & health, health research policy.
Worked for the World Health Organization as Executive Director for Social Change & Mental Health, later for Health Technology and Pharmaceuticals (covering vaccines, immunization and biologicals) from 1998 to 2002.
Worked also for the Prefectural Government in Tochigi as Health Secretary from 2002 to 2005.
Served as Director, R&D Promotion for Innovative Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, MHLW from 2005 to September 2006.
Moved to Director, Ageing & Health, MHLW in September 2006 and served thereat until September 2009.
Served as Deputy Director-General, H1N1 Task Force and Chief, Immunization Policy Review Task Force, MHLW from September 2009 to July 2010.
From July 2010 to August 2012, served as Director, Medical Economics Division, Health Insurance Bureau, MHLW, and revised the health care fee schedules.
Moved to Director General for Health，Medical and Environmental Affairs, Ministry of Defense in September 2012.
Returned to Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs,MHLW in July 2014, currently working on public health emergency preparedness and response including Ebola virus disease.
